Curiouser In Wonderland

I have teamed up with my friend Rachael Jackson who is amazingly talented, you can check out her work at Little Jackrabbits. We have created a blog dedicated to Alice who visited Wonderland and shimmied through the looking glass many years ago.

We will be sharing our knowledge and any curious bits and pieces we find along the way, such as reviewing Alice books, Movies and cartoons, Craft and of course our own illustrations of Alice's adventure.

Rachael and I are two Melbourne Illustrators and Designers with a passion for all things Alice. We met while studying a Diploma of Illustration and bonded over our love of Alice, which has also lead to a joint Alice exhibition that we will be having this year.

So if you are curious about all things Alice, then join the teaparty over at Curiouser in Wonderland. We would love to have you. xo

Red Tears

So using an awesome brush pen I got from China and a splash of colour in Photoshop I have another two images of this vixen. I haven't decided a name for her yet, but I feel like a story is starting to emerge and come together. Hope you like.

Fury

Hello! So yes it has been awhile. I went to China for a little bit with no Internet, but here I am again!

This image was a draft for a painting I did on a ukulele for an exhibition a while ago, but I still quite like this draft and I would like to further explore a series/story with her. This is just a test with colours, I'm unsure about the tentacle things, but I love the red hair. I was influenced by the Evil queen in snow white, and continuing a theme of drawings and paintings I have been doing on scornful, angry and powerful women. So, let me know what you think so far.

I have been drawing I promise. Why do I put off scanning? Well today is beautiful and I am feeling pro-active (not the skin care product) but for actually getting on my computer and scanning! So here are two girls I have been working on. I haven't decided yet whether to paint or to keep as a drawing...
But I promise you'll be the first to know :)

Be Ware the Bunni

I have rescued these three little characters from old visual diaries I was going through. They were each separate ideas, but I never followed through with any of them. I have re-drawn and coloured them to see how they work together. I quite like them and want to push the idea further. I have been in the process of creating characters for a comic and a zine I'm working on. Let me know what you think. HeZ :D

Watch Out For Your Shadow

I am currently studying a Transpersonal Art Therapy course, which is wonderful. We have done a lot of work looking at our shadow side, of which we all have many. I just completed the sixth module on mental health in the medical model which was very intense. Our facilitator, Paul, was great though so as a thank you I made a some-what light hearted take on what our shadows might get up to!

Plaster Fun House in Ballarat

I went for a drive on the weekend with my friend Bel, to Ballarat, just over an hour out of Melbourne and discovered the Plaster Fun House! a long ago memory from our youth! I was talking with a girl from work the other day and we both thought they were all gone, but no! There's still a few stores floating around. It is set up for kids mainly, but I still have my inner child kicking and screaming, there are heaps of objects to choose from, you then buy them, paint them and they glaze for free, and you can get glitter and other bits and bobs stuck on if you want too. Overall, pretty cheap. As my friend and I are both adults, we were cheeky and got two items each, both my pieces only cost $7 each and the paint and glaze are all free. Here's my friend Bel hard at work.

My Lady, I found it hard to decide what colours, but the paints dry quick and you can mix and paint over which is great!

I had to rush my skull though as they were closing and I had been taking my time with the girl, maybe next time I'll stick with 1 item!
